Between 18 April 2020 and 21 April 2020, the Cyber Police of the Kashmir Zone in Srinagar filed First Information Reports (FIR) against three journalists respectively: Masrat Zahra, Peerzada Ashiq and Gowhar Geelani. On 18 April 2020, photo-journalist Masrat Zahra was charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) by the Cyber Police for uploading social media posts that allegedly glorify ‘’anti-national activities’’ on social media.

17 February 2020

On 14 February 2020, an order was passed to move the investigation on the Bhima Koregaon case to the National Investigation Agency court in Mumbai. The next court hearing is set for 28 February 2020. Meanwhile, all nine human rights defenders have been transferred to Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai.

28 July 2017

On 27 July 2017, a Thai Court in Chaiyaphum province found human rights defender Suphap Khamlae guilty of encroaching on forest reserves and sentenced her to six months’ imprisonment under the National Forest Reserve Act. She is the wife of land rights defender Den Khamlae, who was also sentenced in absentia and subject to an arrest warrant despite being missing since April 2016.

On 13 September 2017, Kirsten Han was interrogated by the Bedok police division in relation to the ongoing investigation into her and three fellow human rights defenders Terry Xu, Jolovan Wham and Jason Soo. All four human rights defenders were questioned over the past week. On 6 September 2017, Terry Xu was prevented from travelling by immigration officers at a checkpoint between Singapore and Malaysia and told that he would not be permitted to leave the country as he was under investigation.

5 January 2017

On 3 January 2017, the seven human rights defenders of the Telangana Democratic Front (TDF) fact finding team were denied bail by a district court in Dantewada, South Chhattisgarh. The seven human rights defenders were arrested by the Chhattisgarh police on 25 December 2016 and charged on 26 December 2016 under the Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act for allegedly possessing banned currency notes and Maoist literature.

On 8 September 2015, human rights defenders Ms Maria Chin Abdullah, Ms Mandeep Singh and Mr Adam Adli Abdul Halim were among nine activists who were charged under the Peaceful Assembly Act for organising and taking part in an allegedly unlawful assembly held in Kuala Lumpur on 28 March 2015.

The HRDs managed to get the case referred to Federal Court on 9 August 2016 for a Constitutional challenge. No date has fixed yet at Federal Court. If they succeed in that application, then the entire case will be dropped.

7 September 2021

On 24 August 2021, human rights defender Sabharatnam Sivayoganathan, also known as Seelan, was visited by two officers from the Counter-Terrorism and Terrorism Investigation Division (CTID) at his residence, who summoned him to the Kallady Kaattukandhor police station for questioning the following day. During the inquiry, he was asked about his social media activities. The interrogation lasted for two hours after which the CTID officers informed him that he may be required to attend another interrogation at the Colombo CTID Headquarters.

21 September 2022

On 3 September 2022, human rights defender Sabharatnam Sivayoganathan, also known as Seelan, received a summons to appear before the Counter-Terrorism Investigation Division (CTID) for interrogation on 9 September 2022. The reason for the questioning was not given. The human rights defender’s lawyer wrote to the CTID requesting to postpone the inquiry because of the ill-health of his fatherand provided documents confirming the medical condition. The letter was handed over to the officer in charge of the Terrorism Investigation Division, Fort, Colombo.

On 26 August 2022, human rights defender Chintaka Rajapakse was granted bail by the Colombo Fort magistrate of the amount of 1 million Sri Lankan rupees. Chintaka Rajapakse has also been asked to report to the Colombo Central Crime Division on the last Sunday of every month and he was imposed a foreign travel ban.

12 April 2023

On 28 March 2023, the Civil Court of Maldives ruled in favor of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment (MoYSCE) upholding the decision to de-register the Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) on 19 December 2019. MDN was arbitrarily de-registered in 2019 by the MoYSCE amid a violent smear campaign against the human rights organisation and its staff. Shahinda Ismail, woman human rigths defender and Executive Director of MDN filed action before the Civil Court of Maldives challenging the arbitray de-registation.
