About Safoora Zargar

Safoora ZargarSafoora Zargar is a student woman human rights defender. She is a member of the media team for the Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC), which organized anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests in Delhi in December 2019.

Safoora Zargar granted bail

On 23 June 2020, the Delhi High Court granted bail to woman human rights defender Safoora Zargar citing 'humanitarian grounds'. The defender has been ordered by the court not to leave the city and not to engage in "any activity which would hamper the progress of the investigation" for her case.

Safoora Zargar was arrested on 10 April 2020 and later charged under the draconian Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. She was imprisoned in Tihar jail, despite the Indian Supreme Court and Delhi Hgh Court's directives on de-congesting prisons in the context of Covid-19.
