On 8 July 2024, human rights lawyer Chang Weiping completed a three-and-a-half-year sentence at Weinan Prison in Shaanxi province. Prison officials then escorted him to Haikou city in Hainan province, where his household registration (hukou) is officially located.
On 23 March 2021, the Constitutional Court of Turkey found the pre-trial detention of woman human rights defender Özlem Dalkiran from July to October 2017 to be unlawful, and ruled that her right to personal liberty and security, provided for under Article 19/3 of the Constitution, had been violated. The Court ruled that the woman human rights defender be granted 40,000 TL (approx. €4,300) in compensation, for non-pecuniary damages. Özlem Dalkiran is currently on trial in a case publicly known as the Büyükada case, or the Istanbul10.
On 5 December 2021, prominent Sahrawi woman human rights defender Sultana Khaya was sexually assaulted once again in her home by Moroccan authorities. Sultana Khaya’s sister, Luara Khaya, was also subjected to the sexual assault.
On 12 May 2021, several masked Moroccan security agents raided the home of woman human rights defender Sultana Khaya, and sexually assaulted her and her sister. This was the second raid on her house in 48 hours. On 10 May 2021, several Moroccan plain-clothed security agents raided Sultana Khaya’s home in Boujdour, and physically assaulted her. The security agents also detained human rights defender Babuizid Muhammed Saaed Labhi and two student activists who were staying in her house. Sultana Khaya has been under de facto house arrest since 19 November 2020.
On 10 March 2021, the Riyadh Appeals Court rejected the appeal that the charge of "communicating with external parties" against woman human rights defender Loujain Al-Hathloul be dropped. The rejection of the appeal and upholding of the charge means that the five year travel restriction against her will remain in place.
Loujain Al-Hathloul was released on 10 February 2021, after spending more than 1,000 days in arbitrary detention.

On 22 August 2021, Moroccan security agents raided the house of woman human rights defender Sultana Khaya and physically assaulted her, her sister Laura Khaya and other members of her family. The security agents destroyed the furniture in Sultana Khaya’s house, causing damage to parts of the house and seizing the family’s belongings. Sultana Khaya and her sister were also subjected to sexual harassment by male security agents during the raid.
On 6 May 2022, woman human rights defender Volha Harbunova was sentenced to 3 years of detention without commitment to a penitentiary institution. The Savetski District Court of Minsk found the woman human rights defender guilty for “preparation of actions which gravely violate public order” under Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Republic of Belarus and sentenced her to 3 years of detention without committing WHRD to a penitentiary institution of any type.
On 18 March 2020, Camila Bustamante Álvarez was targeted with a series of online threats and misogynistic attacks coordinated by a group of unidentified men, in reprisal for her advocacy for the right to water.
On 4 December 2023, Criminal Court of Andorra ("Batllia") will hear the case of woman human rights defender Vanessa Mendoza Cortés who is charged with "committing a crime against the prestige of the institutions". If convicted, Vanessa Mendoza Cortés will face a fine of up to 12,000 EUR for criminal and civil liability and will be barred from public office for 6 months.
Since late January 2020, woman human rights defender Rania Amdouni has been targeted with death threats and an intensified smear campaign linked to her peaceful human rights work.
On 8 March 2021, woman human rights defender Rabiyya Mammadova was abducted and attacked by three plainclothes individuals whilst on her way to the women's march on International Women’s Day in Baku. As a result of the physical assault, she incurred injuries to her throat and right ear, resulting in partial deafness, and an injury to her left arm.
On 8 February 2023, Alieh Mottaleb Zadeh was released from Evin prison. Since 4 February 2023, as part of a general amnesty announced by the Iranian judiciaryon the occasion of 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, hundreds of prisoners including human rights defenders have been released from prison.
On 13 April 2020, The Agency of Information and Mass Communications under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan revoked the notice issued to Nemolchi.uz, which stated that some materials published on its website contradicted Uzbek law. The Agency wrote: “Given the relevance and social significance of the problems of domestic violence and violations of women's rights raised by ‘Nemolchi.uz’, the Agency intends to withdraw the previously sent notice, as well as revise the criteria for analysing the content of publications on these issues in the media.’’
On 17 July 2024, human rights defender Houman Taheri began serving a one year prison sentence in Lakan prison, in Rasht Gilan province in Iran.

On the morning of 20 April 2020, Nurcan Baysal received a call from Diyarbakır Police Headquarters, requesting her to go the station in the afternoon to give a statement relating to a new investigation into her online postings. This call came less than three weeks after she had given a statement concerning tweets she had posted in which she questioned the authorities’ response to the Covid 19 pandemic.
The trial of 14 police officers implicated in acts of violence against human rights defenders, protesters and journalists during protests on 9 November 2020, began on 4 May 2021. The police officers are facing charges for their use of violence against human rights defenders, journalists and peaceful protesters during the protest against femicide and gender based violence.

On 17 February 2024, woman human right defender Sepideh Rashnu was summoned to prison as an initial procedure before she starts serving a three year and eleven months imprisonment sentence. The sentence was upheld on 22 November 2023 by The Tehran Revolutionary Court for three years and seven months on charges of "gathering and colluding against the national security" and four months undertaking "propaganda against state."
