Members of SPFT have been targeted on numerous occasions in the past. On 16 March 2015, members of SPFT were intimidated, and six days before, information was received that SPFT member Mr Pianrat Boonrit had been placed on a surveillance list as an "influential person of interest" on the basis of alleged links to organised crime. In February 2015, SPFT member Mr Chai Bunthonglek was shot and killed at his home in Chaiburi District, Surat Thani Province, by an unknown man.

6 November 2017

On 1 November 2017, the Pattani Provincial Prosecutor formally withdrew criminal defamation charges against human rights defenders Pornpen Khongkachonkiet, Somchai Homlaor and Anchana Heemmina, officially putting an end to a 2016 criminal case started by the Thai military. The three defenders had been charged with criminal defamation and violations of the Computer Crime Act which could have incurred penalties of five years in prison and a fine of 300,000 baht (about 7,800 euro).

On 25 March 2015, two members of the Southern Peasants' Federation of Thailand - SPFT (Southern Peasant Cooperatives) were stopped by unknown persons as they were leaving the Chaiburi District, Surat Thani Province, Thailand, where they had met with the Khlong Sai Pattana community. It is believed that the SPFT members were stopped because their vehicle was mistaken for that of human rights defender and SPFT member Mr Pratheep Rakhanthong, who has been the victim of multiple death threats.

7 August 2015

On 5 August 2015, human rights defender Mr Baramee Chairat appeared at Samranrat police station for interrogation on charges of sedition under Section 116 of the Criminal Code. The charges were brought as a result of his support to 14 student activists who were arrested for peacefully demonstrating against military rule in Bangkok on 24 and 25 June 2015.

13 December 2019

On 09 December 2019, at 12:30am, around seventy heavily armed rangers raided human rights defender Arfan Wattana’s house in the Narathiwat Province of Thailand. Arfan Wattana was present at his home along with his family when the incident took place. Four days later, the grounds for the raid have still not been communicated.

4 July 2019

On 28 June 2019, pro-democracy human rights defender Sirawith "Ja New" Seritiwat was assaulted by four unidentified men as he was leaving his home in Bangkok’s Klong Sam Wa district. He sustained serious head injuries and has been admitted to the ICU at Navamin 1 Hospital, where he remains unresponsive and in critical condition.

21 March 2017

On 17 March 2017, Chaiyaphum Pasae, a Lahu youth activist was shot dead by military officials who were attempting to arrest him as an alleged drug suspect in Chiang Dao district of Thailand’s northern Chiang Mai province. He and a friend were driving to Chiang Mai City when soldiers stopped their car at a checkpoint and arrested them for alleged drug possession. Officials claim Chaiyaphum Pasae resisted arrest and was subsequently shot in “an act of self-defence”.

On 23 December 2015, the Supreme Court confirmed the 2012 sentencing of human rights defender Ms Chiranuch Premchaiporn to eight months' imprisonment, suspended for one year, and to a fine of 20,000 baht.

The human rights defender was sentenced for failing to delete allegedly offensive comments about the Thai monarchy, which had been posted on the now-defunct Prachatai web forum.

On 20 August 2015, the Mae Sod Provincial Court held a preliminary hearing in the case against human rights defender Mr Surapan Rujichaiwat and issued a trial order against him.

Surapan Rujichaiwat is now officially charged with defamation following a post on social media calling for an investigation into the activities of Tung Kha Limited Company (TKLC).

On 19th August 2015, human rights defender Ms. Waewrin Buangern contacted the Ngao District Police Chief to report continued surveillance of her home by plain-clothes police officers.

The human rights defender was also calling to verify that those who were monitoring her house were in fact officers from the Ngao District Police Station.

5 April 2019

On 1 April 2019, Ekachai Hongkangwan’s car was set ablaze by unknown assailants. Hours before, on 31 March 2019, Anurak Jeantawanich was attacked by two men in his home. These attacks occurred after a rally co-organised by the human rights defenders on 31 March 2019 to collect signatures for a petition to dissolve the Election Commission.

On 25 April 2016, the Military Court of Bangkok indicted Sirawit Serithiwat for violating the junta’s political gathering ban. He was taken to Bangkok Remand Prison briefly afterwards. Later Sirawit Serithiwat was later released on a bail of 40,000 baht.

On 19 April 2018, Loei Provincial Court acquitted seven women human rights defenders, Pornthip Hongchai, Wiron Ruchichaiwat, Ranong Kongsaen, Mon Khunna, Suphat Khunna, Bunraeng Srithong and Lumplearn Ruengrith, who had been charged on 25 July 2017 with violating the Public Assembly Act and intimidating public officials.

On 19 December 2017, Mukunda Raj Kattel, Director of The Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) was denied entry into India and, after being arbitrarily detained for 18 hours, sent back to Bangkok from Tiruchirappalli International Airport, Tamil Nadu, India.

Tang Zhishun and Xing Qingxian are currently in detention in Tianjin in China on charges of "organizing the smuggling of persons across a national boundary.". Burmese police reportedly took the two human rights defenders, along with Bao Zhuoxuan, the son of detained human rights defender Ms Wang Yu, from their Myanmar hotel on 6 October 2015 as they attempted to bring Bao Zhuoxuan to Thailand.

On 17 October 2016, human rights defenders Mr Sarayuth Ritthipin and Mr Chadet Kaewsin received a summons from the Chum Phae Police Station in Khon Kaen city, Isan region. They have been accused of libel and computer-related violations against government authorities.
