On 9 November 2020, transgender rights defender Nayyab Ali was physically assaulted and robbed at her home in Islamabad by two unidentified, armed men. The defender, after a struggle, was able to fend off the attackers but suffered serious injuries. Nayyab Ali had recently been vocal about the increased targeting of the transgender community in Pakistan through her social media pages, and had since been receiving death threats. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed regarding the attack at the Golra police station on 10 November.

On 31 January 2019, the Supreme Court of Jamaica found woman human rights defender (WHRD) Latoya Nugent guilty of defamation. The Court ordered that she pay J$ 16 million in compensation to the former Moravian Church Minister, Dr Canute Thompson, who brought the lawsuit against her. The decision is being formally challenged by her lawyer. The case is related to information posted by the WHRD on social media in 2016 regarding the alleged sexual abuse and rape of minors perpetrated by Moravian Church Ministers in Jamaica, after receiving information from alleged victims.

Sudanese authorities are continuing a nationwide crackdown against protesters and human rights defenders, through arrests and the use of excessive force resulting in killings. Human rights defender Amal Habani was arrested on 16 January 2018 and taken to an undisclosed location by security forces in Khartoum. Human rights defender Nahid Jabrallah was arrested during a protest on 16 January 2018. Human rights defender Mohamed Aldouma was arrested during a protest in Omdurman on 17 January 2018.
