On 12 August 2020, the High Court of Harare dropped all charges against human rights defenders Rita Nyampinga, Stabile Dewa, George Makoni, Tatenda Mombeyarara, Gamuchirai Mukura, Farirai Gumbonzvanda, and Frank Nyasha Mpahlo. They had been facing charges of subverting constitutional government under Article 22(2)(a)(iii) of the Criminal Law Act.

On 5 June 2020, woman human rights defender and human rights lawyer Claudia Elizabeth Hernández Herrera was arbitrarily detained and physically assaulted by police officers of the San Luis Potosí State, while acting as a human rights observer at a demonstration against police violence in the city of San Luis Potosí. The following day, woman human rights defender Kenia Inés Hernández Montalván was arbitrarily detained along with three minors at the Hortaliza-Valle de Bravo toll by police officers in the State of Mexico.

On 6 May 2022, woman human rights defender Volha Harbunova was sentenced to 3 years of detention without commitment to a penitentiary institution. The Savetski District Court of Minsk found the woman human rights defender guilty for “preparation of actions which gravely violate public order” under Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Republic of Belarus and sentenced her to 3 years of detention without committing WHRD to a penitentiary institution of any type.
On 31 May 2022, a hearing for a new charge of “propaganda activities against the state” against woman human rights defender Zahra Rahimi took place at Shahid Moqadas 33 district (Evin) Court. This charge is in addition to the charge of “gathering and colluding with the intention of disturbing national security” for which she and three other human rights defenders, and the directors of Imam Ali’s Popular Student Relief Society (IAPSRS) Sharmin Meymandinejad, Zahra Rahimi, Katayoun Afrazeh, and Morteza Keymanesh have been under investigation by the same court for the last two years.
On 9 January 2023, Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch139 acquitted ten human rights defenders from Karapatan - the Alliance for the Advancement of People’s Rights, GABRIELA - National Alliance of Women, and the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines (RMP) of perjury, dismissing the charge initiated in March 2020 by former National Security Advisor Hermogenes Esperon Jr. who accused them of lying when they sought protection from the Supreme Court
On 3 September 2021, the first court hearing regarding the case of human rights defenders Leanid Sudalenka, Maryia Tarasenka and Taciana Lasica took place at Centralny District Court in Gomel. The human rights defenders face charges of “organising, financing, training and preparation of actions grossly violating public order and financing such activities” under parts 1 and 2 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code. If convicted, they could face up to three years of imprisonment.
On 21 March 2021, police and military officers arrested woman human rights defender Renalyn Tejero in Cagayan de Oro City. She has been charged with ‘attempted murder’ and ‘murder’, and was allegedly included in the government’s list of individuals deemed to be "communist-terrorist group priority targets" in the Caraga region. Renalyn Tejero is currently being held at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 13’s headquarters at Camp Colonel Rafael Rodriguez in Butuan City.
On 19 December 2017, Scovia Arinaitwe was granted bail while in hospital and was able to leave following treatment. The human rights defender had been charged with "unlawful assembly". After discharging herself from the hospital, Scovia Arinaitwe went to the local police station as part of the terms of her bail and was informed that the charges against her had been dropped. On 16 December 2017, human rights defender Scovia was arrested and detained in Nagalama in Mukono District, Uganda, during which time she was beaten by police officers.
