Napoleon Yunapanta

HRD

Napoleon Yunapanta is a farmer of Selva Alegre in Las Naves, province of Bolívar, Ecuador, and environmental human rights defender. Since 2006, he has actively defended his territory from the presence of mining activities by the Curimining company, subsidiary of Canadian companies Adventus Mining Corporation and Salazar Resources Corporation, that cause a negative impact in the natural resources of the zone, ensuring in that way that the water sources that originate in his territory are kept clean and available for all the communities of the zone.

Due to his active work of defence of human rights, Napoleon Yunapanta has been constantly crimnalized, being condemned to prison in March of 2024 for the crime of illicit association despite the lack of solid evidence against him, which has limited his work and affected him at a public and private level.
