Francisco Javier Barajas Piña

Francisco Javier Barajas Piña was a lawyer and searcher of missing persons since his sister Guadalupe, disappeared in February 2019 in Salvatierra, Guanajuato. He was murdered at close range in downtown Salvatierra, Guanajuato, the same place where his sister disappeared. Months before his murder, Francisco Javier had joined the State Search Commission, from where he promoted the right to truth for families of missing persons in Guanajuato.
Disappearances are endemic in Mexico, often happening with collusion from the state. HRDs working on the issue face serious risk, up to and including death.
