Zeyad Tatari was a Palestinian human rights defender, a pediatric and neonatology consultant at Al Awda Hospital, based in the Northern Gaza Strip, which is part of Al Awda Health and Community Association (AWDA). He actively advocated for the right to health for Palestinian people and sought to spread healthcare awareness within Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. He was known for providing free consultations and treatments to those who could not afford them. During the 2023 Israeli hostilities in Gaza, he was on the front lines, treating the wounded and injured, risking his life in an extremely hostile situation.
Tragically, on 21 November 2023, Zeyad Tatari was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Al Awda Hospital, along with two other doctors and human rights defenders; many others were injured. He was in the facility treating patients when the third and fourth floors were targeted. The hospital was one of the last remaining functional hospitals in northern Gaza.
