Women in Black

Women in Black has suffered fairly intense targeting in 2014. The spokesperson of the anti-terrorism unit in the Ministry of Interior publicly called on hooligans groups to attack them. He was eventually dismissed but the court proceedings against him on charges of criminal threats keeps being postponed indefinitely. Members of WiB were also assaulted during the commemoration of the Srebrenica massacre, their website was hacked and they received several death threats.

In Serbia, despite major improvements since the wars of the 1990s, challenges remain and several HRDs have suffered threats, attacks, intimidation and smear campaigns. The nationalist rhetoric depicting human rights defenders as unpatriotic remains widespread, especially in the political and media discourse.
