Rosario Zavala Aguilar

Rosario Zavala Aguilar was a human rights defender and searcher for missing persons, specifically for her son Yatziri Misael Cardona who was disappeared by armed men who entered her home in December 2019 in Leon, Guanajuato . Rosario was killed by an armed group in October 2020. To date Yatziri's disappearance and Rosario's murder remain unpunished, with no progress in the investigations by the State Prosecutor's Office.
Disappearances are endemic in Mexico, often happening with collusion from the state. HRDs working on the issue face serious risk, up to and including death.
