4th Dublin Platform

The Fourth Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders took place in Dublin Castle, Dublin, Ireland on November 22-24, 2007.

The aims of the 4th Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders were to:

i) Analyse and expose the reality of the repression of human rights defenders and promote their work internationally.
ii) Prioritise the sharing of experience so that human rights defenders can learn from each other and discuss what strategic lessons can be drawn for the prevention and minimisation of risk.
iii) Provide an opportunity for participants to relate experiences and make practical recommendations in specific areas and influence thinking at the international level.

The Fourth Dublin Platform was opened by Denis O'Brien, the Chairman of the Front Line Board of Trustees. Speakers included Mary Lawlor, Executive Director of Front Line Defenders and Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern TD. The key note address was delivered by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louise Arbour.
