Project Coordinator: Visibility Programme- Asia

Front Line Defenders is an Ireland-based international human rights organization working for the protection and security of human rights defenders (HRDs) at risk around the world. The Visibility Team at Front Line Defenders works with HRDs to develop and deploy strategic visibility projects as tools for HRD security, protection, networking and movement building.

Front Line Defenders is seeking a regionally-based Project Coordinator: Visibility Programme to co-lead the design and execution of community consultations, launch events and coordinate visibility activities related to the organisation's visibility programming, notably the forthcoming report on Sex Worker Rights Defenders At Risk. The Project Coordinator will also assist with additional planned projects in Asia.

The role is envisioned for an initial period of 6 months, with possibility of 6 month or longer extension, depending on performance and funding.

The Project Coordinator: Visibility Programme will work collaboratively with members of the Visibility Team at Front Line Defenders to:

  • organize and co-facilitate meetings and events with HRDs to design and develop country-specific launch plans for the Sex Worker Rights Defender report, in line with each community’s protection and advocacy goals,
  • assist in the development and execution of additional projects in the Asia-Pacific region related to visibility and protection for HRDs, including LGBTI and sex worker rights defenders,
  • organize and co-deliver at least one Visibility for Protection Workshop for HRDs,
  • document, track, and assist in donor reports related to program activities.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • extensive experience as a community mobilizer, campaigner, and advocate with LGBTI rights movements and/or sex worker rights movements,
  • demonstrated understanding of the lived experiences of LGBTI people and/or sex workers, and in the movement building strategies utilized by these communities,
  • experience designing and leading visibility and advocacy campaigns utilizing a variety of creative, strategic mediums and outreach strategies,
  • nuanced understanding of the intersectional risks, threats, and protection needs of LGBTI and/or sex worker rights defenders,
  • fluency in English; ability to converse in a language relevant to the region of work,
  • experience leading capacity building workshops or as a trainer is desired.

The successful candidate will receive capacity-building and training in Visibility for Protection (VfP) methodology and other support related to HRD protection issues, digital security and project management.

Candidates from LGBTI, queer, and sex worker communities are particularly encouraged to apply.
