Mr. Pushp Sharma is an award winning investigative journalist based in New Delhi. His reporting for The Milli Gazette focuses on both Indian Muslim issues and broader human rights abuses in India, and he has uncovered scandals including state corruption, sentences against innocent people, and disappearances. As a result of his work, Pushp himself has become the target of judicial harassment and ongoing police investigations.
Human rights defenders in India face a diverse range of attacks and harassment for their wor defending the rights of others, including killings, torture, ill-treatment, enforced disappearance, arbitrary detention, smear campaigns, and judicial harassment. People defending the rights of marginalised communities are targeted by state and non-state actors alike. HRDs have also been labelled as "insurgents" or “Naxalites” (Maoists), in an attempt to discredit their work and justify their targeting.
