Armineh Arakelyan is a human rights lawyer and founder of the Human Rights and Democracy Institute in Armenia. She has more than 20 years of practical experience working in the fields of human rights promotion and protection, humanitarian assistance, democracy and civil society development, and gender issues. Armineh Arakelyan worked as a lawyer and senior consultant for program policies at the headquarters of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva and the Great Lakes region. She worked as the Regional Representative and Head of programme for Europe-South Caucasus with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), and later as International IDEA’s Resident Representative and Head of Diplomatic Office in Armenia. As the Head of the Human Rights Promotion Section, she has cooperated with the EU and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Rwanda and the Great Lakes region.
