Grants Coordinator (Russian-speaking)

Front Line Defenders, The International Foundation for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders (www.frontlinedefenders.org) provides practical assistance to human rights defenders at risk worldwide including through the Protection Grants programme.

Front Line Defenders is seeking a Grants Coordinator (full-time) to take on this challenging role based in the organisation’s headquarters in Dublin. The Grants Coordinator will be responsible together with their fellow Grants Coordinators, under the direction of the Head of Protection Grants, for administering Front Line Defenders’ Protection Grants programme to human rights defenders at risk. The Russian-speaking Grants Coordinator will focus on providing protection grants to human rights defenders at risk in Europe and Central Asia.

The successful candidate will have previous experience of human rights related work, working with people from different cultural backgrounds and a sensitivity towards the situation of human rights defenders. Very good political judgement and knowledge of the human rights situation in Europe and Central Asia is required. Experience of working with human rights defenders in Europe and Central Asia will be an advantage. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Russian are required. Please note that no exception can be made to the language requirements.

The post will be 35 hours per week and will be based in Front Line Defenders' offices in Blackrock, Co Dublin, Ireland.

Grants Coordinator Job description:

  • Liasing with applicant human rights defenders and organisations in a secure and sensitive manner on the preparation of grant applications;
  • Preparing an analysis of each application received for the Director to ensure they are valid and potentially effective, including checking for duplicate applications where appropriate, in order to inform decision-making by the Board of Trustees;
  • Organising the payment of grants, including emergency grants, and maintaining meticulous financial and other records;
  • Maintaining contact with human rights defenders and organisations which have received grants, as well as other stakeholders, and ensuring that Front Line Defenders receives adequate reporting on how grants have been utilised;
  • To produce whatever reports and analysis are deemed necessary with regard to human rights defenders in Europe and Central Asia and Front Line Defenders' grant making programme.
  • To work collaboratively and flexibly with all staff, fellows and volunteers and undertake whatever other relevant tasks/projects are specified by the Executive Director, Deputy Director or Head of Protection Grants.
