#Threats / Intimidation

Threats are one of the most commonly used strategies to intimidate human rights defenders. The most serious threats against HRDs are of physical harm, including death, but can also concern, for example, loss of employment or other adverse consequences. Threats of physical harm can be very effective, especially in contexts characterised by extreme violence. In many countries, threats are also made against family members as a means of putting pressure on HRDs.
