In April 2015 Front Line Defenders and Verso Books published La Lucha: The Story of Lucha Castro and Human Rights in Mexico - the first book in a series of nonfiction graphic novels. La Lucha features the real life stories of women human rights defenders (WHRDs) in northern Mexico who confront lethal challenges in order to promote human rights, justice and accountability.

The 2014 Front Line Defenders Annual Report highlights the dangerous environment in which many human rights defenders operate.

In 2013, Front Line Defenders issued 346 urgent appeals and updates on 426 human rights defenders at risk in 64 countries.

It provided 297 security grants and trained 480 human rights defenders. Overall, more than 1,200 human rights defenders benefited from front line defenders’ protection support in 2013.

All over the world, women defend the rights of individuals and communities facing oppression, discrimination and violence. Their work is powerful, and controversial. And it often meets with bitter, and violent, opposition.

Most women human rights defenders (WHRDs) are well aware of the risks they face. Activists know, from painful experience, the price that many pay for putting their bodies, and their families, on the line.
