LGBTI rights are gaining in recognition and support, even as there are strong attempts to criminalize the LGBTI community in a number of countries around the world. In 2015, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) reported 75 countries that criminalize same-sex relationships, though others also have introduced laws against 'homosexual propaganda' aimed at targeting the LGBTI community. Nonetheless, LGBTI rights defenders are active in virtually every country seeking to improve conditions and respect for the human rights of the LGBTI community.
