Lina Solano Ortiz is the President of the Unión Latinoamericana de Mujeres – ULAM (Latin American Union of Women). She is a founding member of the Popular Peasants Association, a member of the executive committee of the National Co-ordinating Committee for the Defence of Life and Sovereignty (NCCDLS), a member of the Women Defenders of Mother Earth (WDME), and a founding member of the Women’s Latin American Union, a regional network of women defenders of environmental rights.

Ecuador

Human rights defenders have been victims of a wide range of violations in Ecuador, such as police brutality, judicial harassment, arbitrary detentions, smear campaigns, threats, harassment and the oppression of indigenous and campesino communities. Recent incidents have shown that the situation for human rights defenders in Ecuador is precarious.
