Aleksandra Korolyova is an environmental rights defender and the co-founder and the current director of Ecodefense, one of the oldest environmental rights organisations in Russia. Ecodefense works in Moscow, Kaliningrad and Kuzbass to protect the right to a clean and healthy environment, mitigate the negative impacts of coal mining, nuclear power plants and nuclear waste import, as well as provide environmental education.

HRDs in the Russian Federation are often subjected to acts of harassment, surveillance, physical attacks, threat, raids and searches on their offices and homes, slander and smear campaigns, judicial harassment, arbitrary detention, and ill-treatment, as well as violations of the rights to freedom of expression, association, and assembly.
