Malú Garcia Andrade

HRD, President
Nuestras Hijas de Regreso a Casa – NHRC

I fear for the lives of my children, my mother and my own. The government has ignored the recommendations of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights that ordered protective measures for my family. That’s why I hold the state government responsible for what happens to me.

Malú García Andrade is President of the organisation Nuestras Hijas de Regreso a Casa – NHRC (May Our Daughters Return Home). Malú García Andrade's sister, Lilia Alejandra, was abducted, raped, tortured and murdered in Ciudad Júarez in February 2001. Many members of NHRC have filed complaints after receiving threats as a result of their fight against femicide in the State.

Human rights defenders (HRDs) and journalists in Mexico are subject to intimidation, legal harassment, arbitrary detention, death threats, acts of physical aggression, enforced disappearances and killings as a result of their activities in defence of human rights and the exercise of freedom of expression and journalism.
