19 December 2017

On 19 December 2017, Scovia Arinaitwe was granted bail while in hospital and was able to leave following treatment. The human rights defender had been charged with "unlawful assembly". After discharging herself from the hospital, Scovia Arinaitwe went to the local police station as part of the terms of her bail and was informed that the charges against her had been dropped. On 16 December 2017, human rights defender Scovia was arrested and detained in Nagalama in Mukono District, Uganda, during which time she was beaten by police officers.

22 December 2022

On 14 December 2022, human right defenders Ntabazi Imran Java, Lubega Vincent Nsamba, Nkurunziza Alphouse, Wenani Gerald, Musiri David, Waswa Alex Lyazi, Akiso Benjamin, Gonga Akisi and Kajubi Marktom from StopEACOP campaign appeared before the Buganda Road Court, Kampala, Uganda, following their arrest on 7 October 2022 during a peaceful protest. The nine human rights defenders are expected stand trial on 20 February 2023.

13 September 2021

On 10 September 2021, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution dropped all charges levied against the woman human rights defender Florence Orishaba. The officers involved in the arrest and assault of Florence Orishaba have been arrested and an investigation into the assault and arrest of the woman human defender is to be conducted.

30 July 2021

On 28 July 2021, the High Court of Uganda dismissed the charge “making defamatory statements against a government official” levied against the woman human rights defender Florence Orishaba. The two other charges of “inciting violence using Defence For Human Rights (DEFOHR) sponsored radio programs” and “promoting defiance among communities” remain. The case has been adjourned to 4 August 2021.

10 February 2023

On 27 January 2023, human rights defender Bob Barigye was released on police bond, four days after his arrest. He was charged with “obstruction of a police officer on duty” and he was expected to report back to the police station on 31 January 2023. The human rights defender was able to receive medical treatment following his release.

14 December 2022

On 14 December 2022, human rights defenders Barigye Bob, Ivan Kabale, Musoke Hamis Walusimbi and Ssemwanga Jackson, who had been released on police bond two days earlier, reported to Kampala Central police station as instructed, but were again detained and brought to Court. The four human rights defenders were officially charged with “common nuisance” and then released on bail.

1 June 2021

On 25 May 2021, human rights defender Maxwell Atuhura was arrested alongside Italian journalist Federica Marsi in Buliisa. The two were waiting at a hotel in Buliisa to interview residents of Buliisa affected by the oil extraction activities in their village, when they were arrested. Federica Marsi was released on the same day while Maxwell Atuhura was detained for 2 and a half days

30 December 2020

On 30 December, after spending over a week in detention, where he was at risk of contracting COVID-19, Ugandan lawyer and human rights defender Nicholas Opiyo was granted bail by the Buganda Road Court, after serious moneylaundering and corruption charges were filed against him.

On 22 December 2020, Advocate Nicholas Opiyo, a Ugandan lawyer and human rights defender, and four colleagues were arrested and detained on allegations of “money laundering and related malicious acts”.

Land rights defenders Godfrey Ssebisolo, Erias Wanjala and Fred Mwawula reported that on 12 March their houses, located in Kisalanda village, were bulldozed by Great Season Company Limited. The defenders further reported that company agents made death threats against their families and refused to explain why the houses were being destroyed.

On 17 September 2020, land rights defenders Fred Mwawula, Ramu Ndahimana, Samuel Kusiima, Martin Munyansia, Martin Haweka, Amos Wafula, Eliot Talemwa and George Rwakabisha were charged with “threatening violence” by Kiryandongo Magistrate Court. If convicted, they could face up to four years imprisonment. The eight defenders remain in detention at Masindi Prison, with their first hearing scheduled for 15 October.

25 September 2020

On 30 August 2020, women human rights defenders Malhasan Yahya, Asya Adris, Kemisa Mariam and Sophia Gala, and human rights defenders Jamal Adris, Bakhit Hussein, Abdallah Idris and Walid Khalid were assaulted by several unidentified individuals armed with machetes, hoes and sticks in Kakerenge village, Wakiso District. Some of them have been severely injured and require intensive care. The defenders have filed a complaint at Kasangati police station and an investigation has been opened.
