On 21 August 2022, several general directors of the 7 Palestinian human rights organisations which were recently raided and closed by the Israeli authorities received calls and threats. Shawan Jabarin and Khaled Quzmar, human rights defenders and directors of Al-Haq and Defence for Children International were among them. The two directors were summoned for questioning and threatened with arrest and imprisonment if the human rights work of their organisations continue.

On 24 June 2021, human rights defender Raci Bilici appeared before the Diyarbakir 5th Heavy Penal Court for his first retrial hearing, following the Court of Appeal overturning his conviction. The hearing which was scheduled to be held on 27 May 2021 was postponed by the Court.
On 6 April 2021, the Jerusalem District Court upheld the travel ban against human rights defender Laith Abu Zeyad for the second time. Laith Abu Zeyad has been under a travel ban since 26 October 2019.
On 31 May 2020, the Jerusalem District Court held a hearing for human rights defender Laith Abu Zeyad. The Court will take the final decision regarding the travel ban in the coming days.

On 10 March 2021, the Riyadh Appeals Court rejected the appeal that the charge of "communicating with external parties" against woman human rights defender Loujain Al-Hathloul be dropped. The rejection of the appeal and upholding of the charge means that the five year travel restriction against her will remain in place.
Loujain Al-Hathloul was released on 10 February 2021, after spending more than 1,000 days in arbitrary detention.

On 18 January, the Riyadh Penal Court in Saudi Arabia sentenced Mr. Natheer Al-Majed to seven years in prison and a subsequent seven-year travel ban for charges that include inter alia writing articles against the Saudi regime and participating in protests. The human rights defender was arrested earlier that day and is currently being held in Al-Ha’er prison in Riyadh. In the week of 23 January, the family of the Natheer Al-Majed sent a request to the Saudi authorities to approve the appointment of a defence lawyer to aid in the appeal of his case.
On 28 October 2020, officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided the offices and homes of several human rights organisations and human rights defenders in Kashmir, India. Among those targeted were woman human rights defender Parveena Ahanger and human rights defender Khurram Parvez. Media reports indicate that the raids are an attempt to stigmatise and persecute the defenders based on fabricated charges and without basis.
On 19 July 2023, human rights defender Obedi Karafuru was shot and killed in his house by unidentified men in Bishusha, Rutshuru territory in North Kivu, a region controlled by the M23 rebels.
Update: on 7 August 2019, human rights defender Guo Feixiong was released, at the end of his six-year prison sentence.
Guo, the 2015 winner of the Front Line Defenders Award for Human Rights Defenders at Risk, served a six year prison sentence for “gathering crowds to disturb social order” and “picking quarrels and provoking trouble”.
On July 25 2020, human rights defender Azimjan Askarov died in Kyrgyzstan at penal colony №47 where he had been transferred a day before for medical examination.
On 22 July 2020, Azimjan Askarov’s lawyer Valeryan Vakhitov visited the human rights defender in prison and reported that his health had deteriorated significantly.
On the morning of 5 February 2020, unidentified individuals attempted to break into the house of human rights lawyer Esteban Celada. Prior to the incident, unknown persons asked his neighbours about his whereabouts.
On 6 September, Cairo Criminal Court ordered the extension of human rights defender Ramy Kamel’s detention for an additional 45 days pending investigation in case no.1475/2019. The human rights defender is facing charges of “funding a terrorist organisation”, “defamation” and “misuse of social media”. The human rights defender remains in detention in Tora prison.
On 14 September 2023, human rights defenders Adilur Rahman and A.S.M Nasiruddin Elan were sentenced for two years of jail by the Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka. The human rights defenders are Secretary and Director of Odhikar, a renowned human rights organisation documenting human rights violations in Bangladesh.
On 7 May, 2023 Crimean Tatar human rights defender Abdureshit Dzhepparov was released after completing his sentence of 12 days administrative arrest.
On 15 February 2024 the Russian occupational law enforcement authorities from the Center for Combating Extremism in Simferopol, Crimea, drew up an administrative report against Crimean human rights defender and lawyer Emil Kurbedinov for so-called “abuse of freedom of mass information,” a crime, envisioned by Part 9, Article 13.15 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.
On 2 August 2023, Crimean Tatar human rights defender and civic journalist Kulamet Ibraimov parents’ house in the village of Buyuk-Onlar in Russian-occupied Crimea was raided and the human rights defender’s parents were intimidated by representatives of the Russian Centre for Countering Extremism. The raid took place only one day after Kulamet Ibraimov’s release from an arbitrary 5-day administrative arrest.
On 17 and 18 June 2023, three human rights defenders Abd Elrazeg Adam Mohammed, Tareg Hassan Yagoub Elmalik and El Sadeg Mohammed Ahmed Haroun were killed in El Geneina, West Darfur. On 18 June 2023, the human rights defender, lawyer and one of the founding members of the Darfur Bar Association Tareg Hassan Yagoub Elmalik was killed in his house in El Geneina. The human rights defender was also a memeber of the steering committee for the Sudanese Bar Association.
On 17 and 18 June 2023, three human rights defenders Abd Elrazeg Adam Mohammed, Tareg Hassan Yagoub Elmalik and El Sadeg Mohammed Ahmed Haroun were killed in El Geneina, West Darfur. On 17 June 2023, Abd Elrazeg Adam Mohammed, a 28-year-old human rights defender and memeber of the Darfur Network of Monitors, was killed along with his parents and his 4 brothers in El Geneina.
On 17 and 18 June 2023, three human rights defenders Abd Elrazeg Adam Mohammed, Tareg Hassan Yagoub Elmalik and El Sadeg Mohammed Ahmed Haroun were killed in El Geneina, West Darfur. On 18 June 2023, the human rights defender and lawyer El Sadeg Mohammed Ahmed Haroun was killed in El Geneina.
Over the past two and a half weeks, three human rights defenders Mohammed Ahmed Kudia, Khamis Arabab and Khidir Sulieman Abdelmageed were killed in El Geneina, West Darfur.
On 28 May 2023, the human rights defender and leader of the Garifuna community in Triunfo de la Cruz, Honduras, Martín Morales Martínez, was found dead after having been reported as missing by his family on 27 May 2023.
On 4 May 2023, representatives of the General Administration for Combating Extremism (Center ‘E’) in the city of Krasnodar raided the office of Crew against Torture in Krasnodar, in southern Russia. After the raid, law enforcement brought human rights defender and lawyer, Ilya Platonov, who was present at the office during the raid, in for questioning as a witness; he was let go later the same day. This is the third raid on Crew against Torture’s regional offices since 14 April 2023.
On 2 May 2023, the woman human rights defender Teresa Magueyal was shot dead by a group of unidentified armed men while riding her bike in the area of San Miguel Octopan, in the municipality of Celaya, Guanajuato.
On 21 March 2023, Russian law enforcement authorities raided apartments of at least eight former staff members of International “Memorial” and Human Rights Centre (HRC) “Memorial.” The raid happened at the apartments of human rights defenders Oleg Orlov, Yan Rachinskii, Nikita Petrov, Alexandra Polivanova, Alexander Gurianov, Irina Ostrovskaya, Galina Iordanskaya, and Alyona Kozlova. Since the raids, former staff members brought in for questioning to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Tverskoy District in Moscow.
