On 20 May 2022, human rights defender Guillermo Pérez Rangel was physically attacked by two unknown individuals who threatened him with death, insulted him and beat him on different parts of his body at a Transmilenio station in the centre of Bogotá. Guillermo Pérez Rangel has a long history of defending human and environmental rights, and has suffered previous attacks and threats that led to his inclusion in the National Protection Unit (UNP) in 2016. Despite this, the human rights defender has no effective measures for his protection.

18 March 2022

Human rights defenders Teófilo Acuña and Jorge Alberto Tafur murdered on 22 February 2022 in the village of Puerto Oculto, municipality of San Martín, department of Cesar. Both Teófilo Acuña and Jorge Alberto Tafur had reported and publicly denounced the threats that they were facing from the Municipal Mayor and the police to the authorities, before they were shot and killed on 22 February 2022 by unidentified individuals in front of their families in Puerto Oculto, municipality of San Martín, department of Cesar.

On 21 March 2022, women's rights defender Yirley Judith Velasco Garrido received a death threat by text message on her mobile phone, while in the company of a lawyer from Corporación SISMA MUJER at a collective reparation event in the department of Bolívar. The threat included the message "we will give you a lead if you continue to defend bitches," as well as other private information about the defender in retaliation for her legitimate work on behalf of women's rights.

The Association of Indigenous Councils of Northern Cauca (ACIN) has reported a new series of armed attacks and threats in Nasa indigenous territory in the department of Cauca. During the last weeks of January 2022, armed attacks by alleged outlawed groups have caused the death of three human rights defenders and kiwe thegnas (indigenous guards), Breiner David Cucuñame López, Guillermo Chicame Ipia and José Albeiro Camayo Güetio, in the Nasa Las Delicias indigenous reservation in the municipality of Buenos Aires.

On 9 May 2021, indigenous woman human rights defender Daniela Soto received two gunshots to her abdomen from armed civilians in armoured vans in the La María area of Cañas Gordas, south of Cali. During the attack, at least 11 indigenous human rights defenders from the Indigenous Guard were also injured. The attacks occurred in the context of the ongoing national strike, in which members of the Indigenous Guard have been participating, against a tax reform promoted by the government of President Iván Duque and against police brutality in Colombia.

On 5 May 2021, human rights defender Johan Sebastián Moreno Castro was released from the Immediate Reaction Unit (URI) of the Attorney General's Office in Bucaramanga after being arbitrarily detained and ill-treated by police officers for more than 10 hours. The defender’s detention occurred in the context of the ongoing national strike against a tax reform promoted by the government of President Iván Duque and against police brutality in Colombia.

On 20 April 2021, Nasa indigenous woman human rights defender Sandra Liliana Peña Chocué was shot dead by four unidentified armed men. The men violently abducted the woman human rights defender from her home in the indigenous reserve of “La Laguna-Siberia” in Caldono, Cauca, before killing her.

24 January 2020

On 19 January 2020, a group of heavily armed men arrived at the residence of indigenous rights defender Yesid Conda Pacho, in the center of the Pitayó indigenous reservation (resguardo), municipality of Silvia, Cauca. During the incident, the human rights defender and the bodyguards assigned to him by the National Protection Unit were threatened at gunpoint.

On 29 March 2017, a court in Cartagena, Colombia, imposed detention measures against members of Congreso de los Pueblos (Congress of the Peoples) and Comisión de Interlocución del Sur de Bolívar, Centro y Sur del Cesar (Southern Bolivar Inter-Dialogue Commission, Center and South of Cesar – CISBCSC) who were detained after coordinated actions undertaken by the police on 21 and 22 March 2017.
