2 December 2020

On 26 November 2020, a relative of human rights defender John Cerna visited him in Jorge Navarro penitentiary, also known as “La Modelo” in the city of Tipitapa, Managua. After the visit his relative reported that the student rights defender showed serious signs of physical and psychological torture, and that he was lacking adequate medical attention in the maximum security cell that was transferred to on 16 September 2020.

On 12 August 2020, the High Court of Harare dropped all charges against human rights defenders Rita Nyampinga, Stabile Dewa, George Makoni, Tatenda Mombeyarara, Gamuchirai Mukura, Farirai Gumbonzvanda, and Frank Nyasha Mpahlo. They had been facing charges of subverting constitutional government under Article 22(2)(a)(iii) of the Criminal Law Act.

10 June 2020

On 5 June 2020, woman human rights defender and human rights lawyer Claudia Elizabeth Hernández Herrera was arbitrarily detained and physically assaulted by police officers of the San Luis Potosí State, while acting as a human rights observer at a demonstration against police violence in the city of San Luis Potosí. The following day, woman human rights defender Kenia Inés Hernández Montalván was arbitrarily detained along with three minors at the Hortaliza-Valle de Bravo toll by police officers in the State of Mexico.

17 November 2020

On 9 November 2020, transgender rights defender Nayyab Ali was physically assaulted and robbed at her home in Islamabad by two unidentified, armed men. The defender, after a struggle, was able to fend off the attackers but suffered serious injuries. Nayyab Ali had recently been vocal about the increased targeting of the transgender community in Pakistan through her social media pages, and had since been receiving death threats. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed regarding the attack at the Golra police station on 10 November.

11 August 2017

On 9 August 2017, leading member of Human Rights Defenders Palestine, Badie Dweik was summoned for interrogation at Etzion on 14 August 2017 at 9.00 AM. On 4 August 2017, another co-founder of the Human Rights Defenders Group, Imad Abu Shamsiyya was arrested and  detained overnight by Israeli forces after participating in a peaceful demonstration.

5 March 2020

On 2 March 2020, human rights defenders from Karapatan, Gabriela and the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines received a court notice sustaining a motion filed by a government official, finding probable cause to charge the human rights defenders with perjury.

19 December 2017

On 19 December 2017, Scovia Arinaitwe was granted bail while in hospital and was able to leave following treatment. The human rights defender had been charged with "unlawful assembly". After discharging herself from the hospital, Scovia Arinaitwe went to the local police station as part of the terms of her bail and was informed that the charges against her had been dropped. On 16 December 2017, human rights defender Scovia was arrested and detained in Nagalama in Mukono District, Uganda, during which time she was beaten by police officers.
