Roberth Morales Villafuerte

HRD
Brörán-Térraba Senior Council

Roberth Morales Villafuerte is a Brörán indigenous leader within the Brörán-Térraba Senior Council, an activist for the South-South Coordinator and an indigenous rights defender in Costa Rica. He has been a spokesperson for peaceful causes, which seek to reduce structural, physical and symbolic violence against the Brörán people. As a result of his work, the defender has been threatened and discriminated by local authorities and land grabbers.

Costa Rica

Recent reports of violations against indigenous rights HRDs in Costa Rica have been of great concern. Different indigenous peoples – like the bri-bri and the cabécar – have reported invasions and arson attacks on their ancestral lands by landowners from the region.
