Martha Solórzano is a woman human rights defender (WHRD) from Sonora, Mexico, who has dedicated her life to denouncing abuses of power, corruption and human rights violations by municipal and state police in her home town, San Luis Río Colorado, where she is known for campaigning and accompaining victims in the pursue of justice in a climate of widespread impunity. Due to her work, Martha has suffered defamation and smear campaigns, threats, breaks-in in her home and the arbitrary detention of her son, who was charged by municipal police officers who had previously been denounced by the WHRD and imprisoned for more than two and a half years until acquitted on appeal.
