Maher Ahmed Ibrahim

HRD, Executive Director & Founder
Development Interaction Network (DIN)

Maher Ahmed Ibrahim is a Syrian human rights defender who moved to Lebanon in 2013 after being seriously threatened by the Syrian regime. He is the executive director and a founder of the Development Interaction Network (DIN), which was established by a group of young Syrian activists to assist Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and document human rights crimes committed by the Syrian regime and other warring parties.

Under particular scrutiny are individuals who work with the country’s refugee population. They face harassment in the form of travel restrictions, repeated summons and interrogations. They are often charged with defaming Lebanon ’s reputation; creating civil disorder, and even treason. More pressingly, they have the threat of their chosen organizations branded illegal.
