Juan Carlos Castro Aragón


Juan Carlos Castro is a human rights defender, nursing technician and survivor of the 1997 Mapiripán massacre, has experience working with victims of forced displacement in the context of the armed conflict and has accompanied and advised land claimants in the department of Meta.

HRDs in Colombia work in a violent and unsafe environment. They are subjected to threats, intimidation, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, physical assaults, torture, killings, illegal searches of their homes and offices and stigmatisation as a result of their activities in defence of human rights.
