Elionice Sacramento is a well known leader in Bahia. A fisherwoman and woman human rights defender of the Fisher and Quilombola Community of Conceição de Salinas, in Salinas da Margarida, Bahia, Brazil. 

She is a member of the Movement of Artisanal Fishermen and Fisherwomen (MPP) and the National Articulation of Fisherwomen (ANP). Elionice Sacramento works to achieve better living conditions in the Quilombola Community and for the regularisation of the territories they fish in, as well as against the privatisation of water.

The challenges and threats faced by human rights defenders in Brazil remain very high, particularly for those working on issues of land, environment, indigenous peoples, LGBTi rights, corruption and impunity. Many HRDs have experienced death threats, physical attacks, arbitrary arrests and lawsuits.
