Team Purpose: The IT team provides essential support to all FLD staff in implementation, administration, maintenance and support of efficient and secure digital communication, information storage and processing through information and communication (ICT) systems in the organisation.
Role Purpose: Acts as the first point of contact for all IT support queries across the team, provides training and support to new employees and supports the maintenance of the IT networks and systems.
The key accountabilities and associated duties include:-
IT Support (Tier 1/2)
This role acts as the first point of contact with the internal FLD team in the provision of Tier 1 & 2 IT support, including the recording and reporting on activities.
This role will work almost exclusively with open source software using systems like Linux, My SQL, Apache, and Nginx. But will also for selected staff work with proprietary systems like MS Windows, Mac OS, MS Office, etc.
Using Libre Office, provide support to all internal FLD staff with their IT queries by identifying the nature of problems, determine appropriate actions, prioritise and escalate if necessary
Support using CiviCRM database to track information on our operational activities
Engage with staff, fellows and volunteers in-person and remotely to support them with troubleshooting and fixing their technical issues
Refer to internal resources to troubleshoot problems (Wiki, how to guides, internal training)
Record details to enhance this internal resource library with Wiki notes and related content
Liaise with the IT team to escalate queries or brainstorm solutions
Record all support requests received and details of solutions provided
Generate reports and summary of activities as required
Provide required IT and digital security training to staff, fellows and volunteers remotely and in person.
Assist with IT related induction of new staff on FLD processes and procedures to ensure they understand the security procedures and internal workings of IT at FLD.
Create reference resources and guides.
Network & Systems Maintenance
Maintain network and systems in place across the organisation ensuring they are managed securely and effectively to deliver the necessary functionality and protection to the organisation, information and communications it manages.
Systems and Network Administration
Setup and manage servers, switches and firewalls needed for FLD work.
Assists in the growth of the infrastructure of servers and services to be used by staff, ensuring they run securely, reliably and efficiently.
Set up staff with appropriate devices i.e. laptop, desktop, mobiles, etc.
Upgrade, install, and configure new hardware and software to meet organisations objectives.
Perform diagnostic tests and debugging procedures to optimize IT systems.
Create user accounts and performing access control.
Document processes, as well as back up and archive data.
Develop data retrieval and recovery procedures.
Systems and Network Security
Monitor reliable level of security on servers, network devices, workstations and other peripherals used within FLD.
Ensure that security monitoring, auditing and alerting tools and network traffic analysis is carried out.
IT and Security Policy
Ensure staff adhere to the organisational IT Security Policy when setting them up at induction.

Technical Knowledge and Skills - Essential:
Recognised ICT degree or equivalent experience.
Administering major operating systems like: Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS and GNU Linux (most importantly Ubuntu)
Knowledge of provisioning tools such as Ansible
Intermediate experience of Ubuntu in a desktop environment
Strong troubleshooting skills with a logical, analytical approach to problem solving
Familiarity with best practices with IT systems, networks, and related technologies
Installation, configuration and support of PCs, laptops, tablets, smartphones and related hardware and software
Proven experience producing and updating relevant documentation and procedures
1+ years’ experience with networking – both hardware devices and software – Firewalls, Routers, Switches, WiFi, etc.

Approachable and available for advice and support
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in English.
Can communicate technical solutions effectively to non-technical audiences
Highly organised and proactive with strong time management skills

Delivery and service focused with keen attention to detail and a focus on continual improvement
Knowledge of other languages would be an advantage.
Knowledgeable of IT systems security for hardware and software, servers, network devices, workstations, phones and other peripherals.
Two years’ + experience in similar Tier 2 role with direct user contact to troubleshoot and resolve technical difficulties.
Occasional requirement to travel internationally.
Availability for emergency support / project work during nights and weekends on an infrequent basis.
Dublin, both remotely and in our offices, once government guidelines allow.
€34,000 to €39,000, depending on experience
Full time staff are entitled to 21 days of annual leave per year.
