Call for Volunteers for Dublin Platform 2019

Are you passionate about human rights and social justice? Are you interested in playing an active role at an international human rights conference?

Front Line Defenders – the International Foundation for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders – is looking for a group of enthusiastic and committed volunteers to work with us on the upcoming 2019 Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders at Risk which will take place from the 1st October through to the 4th October 2019.

The Dublin Platform is a vibrant and important space for over 100 human rights defenders from approximately 90 different countries to gather in Dublin to discuss ideas, address challenges, engage with decision-makers from governmental and international bodies and share their knowledge and experiences without fear of the reprisals, intimidation, violence or discrimination they face on a daily basis.

We would like your help to extend a warm welcome to our 100+ human rights defenders who will travel considerable distances to be with us here in Dublin, and to ensure that the Platform runs successfully and smoothly.

We are currently looking for volunteers who are willing and able to offer their time and energy for at least 2 full days and/or 4 half days, mornings and/or afternoons on Friday, 27th September, and Saturday 28th September and between Tuesday 1st October and Friday 04th October.

Volunteers can expect a variety of tasks: from greeting human rights defenders at the airport and registering them on their arrival in their hotel, to stewarding, security, and setting up at the conference venue and, most importantly, making sure the human rights defenders feel welcome and at ease.

As the working languages at Front Line Defenders are English, Arabic, French, Spanish and Russian, it would be especially helpful if some volunteers can communicate in English and at least one other of these working languages. Additionally Portuguese, Turkish, Filipino, Malay, Tamil, Korean and Thai-speaking volunteers would be a real asset to the team. However, it is your enthusiasm, commitment and warm countenance that we most look forward to having on our dynamic team so please do not let a lack of languages deter you from being on our volunteer team!

All volunteers are essential to the smooth running of the platform and your help will be greatly appreciated!

To register your interest in becoming a Front Line Defenders Platform volunteer, please email Anuradha Sen, our Volunteer Coordinator at tcd.intern@frontlinedefenders.org to receive an application form.

Please note we have a limited number of volunteer spaces on our team so if the volume of applications exceed this number we will aim to prioritise those who can commit the most number of days and/or speak the desired languages. Please also note, we are not in a position to sponsor travel, accommodation or visas for volunteers.

One of our Volunteer Coordinators, Anuradha Sen, is available at tcd.intern@frontlinedefenders.org for any questions you may have.
