On 3 December 2018, Li Xiaoling was released from the Zhuhai No. 1 Detention Center. Li Xiaoling has reportedly been placed under soft detention; while she has been allowed to return home, she remains under surveillance and control of Zhuhai City authorities, and she is not allowed to leave the city.

On 15 September 2017, petitioner rights advocate Li Xiaoling’s (李小玲) lawyer revealed that she had been formally arrested on the charge of “picking quarrels and provoking troubles”. The human rights defender has been detained since  4 June 2017.

في يوم الثلاثاء 21 تشرين الثاني / نوفمبر 2017، حكمت محكمة عوفر العسكرية على أشرف أبو رحمة بالسجن لمدة ثلاثة أشهر مع بغرامة مالية قدرها 5,000 شيكل إسرائيلي وحكم بالسجن لمدة 18 شهرا مع وقف التنفيذ.

On 22 September 2016, the original sentences against blogger Nguyen Huu Vinh, better known as Ba Sam, and his assistant, Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, were upheld at an appeal hearing at the Hanoi-based Supreme People’s Court in Yen Hoa ward, Cau Giay district.

On 23 March 2016 the People's Court of Hanoi sentenced the human rights defender to five years in prison. His assistant was sentenced to three years.

في 18 يناير/كانون الثاني، حكمت محكمة الرياض على السيد نذير الماجد بالسجن لمدة سبع سنوات مع حظر سفر لسبع سنوات أخرى، بتهم من بينها؛
 كتابة مقالات ضد النظام السعودي والمشاركة في الاحتجاجات. وقد اعتقل المدافع عن حقوق الإنسان في وقت سابق من ذلك اليوم وهو محتجز حاليا في سجن الحائر بالرياض. وكان أسرة نذير الماجد قد تقدمت في 23 يناير/كانون الثاني بطلب إلى السلطات السعودية للموافقة على تعيين محام للمساعدة في استئناف الحكم.

On 20 August 2023, the lawyer of human rights defenders Sarvenaz Ahmadi and Kamyar Fakour announced that the human rights defenders have been denied amnesty due to their alleged “membership in hostile groups with the intention of toppling the Islamic Republic.” In addition, another suspended sentence of two years in prison has come into effect for Kamyar Fakour from an indictment on the charge of “disturbing the public opinion” issued by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court in 2021.

On 26 August 2022, human rights defender Chintaka Rajapakse was granted bail by the Colombo Fort magistrate of the amount of 1 million Sri Lankan rupees. Chintaka Rajapakse has also been asked to report to the Colombo Central Crime Division on the last Sunday of every month and he was imposed a foreign travel ban.

On 18 May 2021, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court denied bail to seven human rights defenders, five of whom are members of Khmer Thavrak and two others who are members of the Khmer Student Intelligent League Association. All seven defenders were arrested between August and September 2020, some for planning to participate and others for participating in peaceful demonstrations seeking the release of several other imprisoned human rights defenders. Those arrested include Chhoeun Daravy, Hun Vannak, Koet Saray, Tha Lavy, Eng Malai, Muong Sopheak and Mean Prommony.

On 30 January, human rights defender Ralibera Andriamaholy Jerisoa was arrested, without a warrant, by four armed police officers and taken to the central police station of Sabotsy Namehana for alleged investigations following the organisation of a meeting planned on the same day. He was released two hours later but has since been receiving persistent threats by unknown individuals.

On 27 March 2020, land rights defenders and members of the Yalifombo community Iswetele Eswetele Mokili, Dominique Kamatinanga Zuzi, Antoine Swimbole Lingele, Robert Esumbahele and Franck Lwange Etiota were granted release on bail by the High Court of Yangambi. They are still facing charges in connection with their protests against the activities of the company Plantations et Huileries du Congo (FERONIA-PHC).

On 27 March 2023, the Taliban arrested human rights defender and education rights campaigner Matiullah Wesa from the Khoshhal-Khan area in Kabul. Matiullah Wesa has been campaigning nationally and internationally against the worsening circumstances for women and girls’ education in Afghanistan under the Taliban. The Taliban spokersperson has confirmed Matiullah Wesa’s arrest stating that this was due to his ‘illegal activities’.

Imprisoned woman human rights defender and citizen journalist Zhang Zhan was hospitalised in July 2023 at a hospital in Shanghai managed by prison authorities. Prior to her hospitalisation, she weighed only 37kg, half of her weight prior to her arrest.

On 7 February 2023 woman human rights defender Jennifer Awingan-Taggaoa was released on bail from the Abra Provincial jail where she was imprisoned since her arrest on 30 January 2023. Jennifer Awingan-Taggaoa, along with six other human rights defenders, is facing charges arising from an incident on 27 October 2022 in Gacab, a district in the municipality of Malibcong, located in the province of Abra. The event in question was an ambush by the New Peoples Army (NPA) who attacked four soldiers of the Philippine Army, causing two deaths.

On 26 November 2022, woman human rights defender and Trade Union leader Chhim Sithar was detained by immigration police at the Phnom Penh International Airport after returning to Cambodia following a 12-day trip to Australia. She was detained at immigration at around 10:30am and subsequently sent to pre-trial detention in Correctional Centre 2, where she is subject to horrendous and extremely poor prison conditions. Chhim Sithar’s lawyer, who was present at the airport, has not been allowed to accompany her during questioning.

On 6 June 2022, human rights defenders Gounoung Vaima Gan Fare, Youssouf Korom Ahmat, Koude Mbainaissem, and Max Loalngar, were given a 12 month suspended prison sentence and fined CFA 10 million (approximately EUR 15,250) during their hearing. The human rights defenders were not granted the right to speak during their trial and their lawyers denounced several irregularities during the judicial process. The human rights defenders were all released during the same night and have ten days to file an appeal of their sentence.

On 28 July 2020, woman human rights defender and journalist Samira Sabou was discharged by the High Court of Niamey on the grounds of ‘unconstituted offences’, and released the same day. The defender was being detained in Niamey's civil prison since 10 June 2020 on the charge of ‘defamation’ in connection with a social media post highlighting corruption.

On 14 February 2020, an order was passed to move the investigation on the Bhima Koregaon case to the National Investigation Agency court in Mumbai. The next court hearing is set for 28 February 2020. Meanwhile, all nine human rights defenders have been transferred to Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai.

On 27 October 2017, human rights defender Julito M. Otacan and five other members of indigenous rights organisation Tagdumahan Indigenous Peoples' Organization were arrested during a military raid in the village of Balit, Agusan del Sur province, for alleged illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

On 8 June 2020, human rights defenders Taylor Engonga and Peter Tetunabo were released on bail after they were granted provisional release on 5 June, with a bail of $350 (about €310) each. The two defenders have not yet been informed of the charges brought against them. They are due to appear before the magistrate of the Court of Liasala on 15 June, and every two weeks following that until further notice. The Court is located approximately 150km from their city of residence, Bumba.
