100% of donations raised by Team FLD will be dedicated specifically to the Protection Fund for Human Rights Defenders at Risk which provides direct support to women human right defenders.
Women human rights defenders are powerful agents of change within their societies, and work on the promotion and protection of many different human rights issues. However, as a result of being women and the nature of their work, many women defenders face increased threats to their personal well being than male defenders, specifically in the form of gender-based violence and attacks. In the face of strong patriarchal social structures, women may not be viewed as having a place in the professional or public sphere of a society, and therefore women defenders will have to overcome these challenges in addition to the challenges of being a defender in order to achieve success in their work. Despite these insurmountable odds, women human rights defenders have proven to be instrumental in the fight for change and for peace in their communities.
