On 21 January 2012, human rights defender Mr Anton Ryzhov was temporarily detained in Nizhny Novgorod as he was on his way back from Chechnya.

Today in Dublin Mary Robinson, president of the Mary Robinson Foundation – Climate Justice, presented the annual Front Line Award for Human Rights Defenders at Risk to the Joint Mobile Group of the Russian Federation for their outstanding work investigating torture and disappearances in Chechnya despite the serious risks.

The Award was presented to Mr Igor Kalyapin founder and President of the Joint Mobile Group at the Award ceremony in Dublin's City Hall. Russian Federation - Human rights defender Mr Oleg Orlov fined following defamation suitposted on: 2009/10/13

On 6 October 2009, human rights defender Mr Oleg Orlov, chairman of Human Rights Center Memorial, was fined and ordered to retract public statements following a defamation lawsuit brought against him by the President of the Republic of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. Human Rights Centre Memorial concentrates its activities on human rights violations in zones of armed conflicts in the Russian Federation, and on the protection of refugees and victims of discrimination and political persecution.

Russia: Raid on the office of Nizhny Novgorod Foundation to Support Toleranceposted on: 2008/04/16

Front Line is deeply concerned following reports that the office of the Nizhny Novgorod Foundation to Support Tolerance was raided by police on 20 March 2008. Computers and software were taken as well as the mobile phone of Stanislav Dmitrievsky, a consultant with the Foundation. Stanislav Dmitrievsky had previously been Chairperson of the Russian-Chechen Friendship Society (RCFS), a predecessor to the Foundation, before it was closed down in Russia by the authorities.

Russian Federation: Raid on offices of Nizhny Novgorod Foundation to Support Toleranceposted on: 2007/08/31

Front Line is concerned following reports that the offices of the Nizhny Novgorod Foundation to Support Tolerance were raided by police officers on 29 August 2007. The Nizhny Novgorod Foundation to Support Tolerance is a human rights organisation that was founded in March 2007 after the ordered closure of the Russian Chechen Friendship Society (RCFS) under the new restrictive law on associations in Russia.
