On 28 April 2013, a settler in the West Bank area of Tel-Rumeida spat in the face of human rights defender Mr Issa Amro and threatened to kill him. The incident is part of an ongoing defamation and harassment campaign against the human rights defender and his family by a community of Israeli settlers. It happened in the presence of an Israeli soldier who reportedly gave incorrect testimony to the Israeli Police when they arrived on the scene, saying that Issa Amro provoked the settler and that the settler never spat in his face. On 23 April 2013, Issa Amro received an anonymous phone call during which the caller threatened to kill him if he did not halt his work.
On 12 March 2013, approximately one month after he was forced to go into hiding due to threats, human rights defender Mr Fabakary Ceesay received a tip off that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) had issued an alert to its agents to search for him.
Several human rights defenders in Sucre have received the latest in a series of death threats allegedly sent by the paramilitary group the Águilas Negras (Black Eagles).
On 2 February 2013 human rights defenders Messr Nkosilathi Moyo and Mr Jasper Maposa were subjected to threats with the aim of forcing them to drop a complaint to the police that was submitted on 31 January 2013 after a community meeting in the city of Kwekwe was stormed by hundreds of armed youths, reportedly affiliated to the ruling party ZANU PF.
On 24 January 2013, human rights defender Ms Martha Díaz was targeted with a death threat. This followed a pamphlet received on 22 January 2013 which threatened the National Movement of the Victims of State Crimes (MOVICE), of which Martha Díaz is a member.
On 20 January 2013, a peaceful picket of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) rights defenders was attacked by counter-protesters in the city of Voronezh. The picket was was organised by local human rights defenders Messrs Andrey Nasonov, Evgeny Chunosov and Pavel Lebedyev against the proposed bill in the Russian Parliament which, if passed, would ban the "propaganda of homosexuality".
Front Line Defenders is extremely concerned for the safety of human rights defender Ms Eloísa Barrios and her family following the killing, on 15 December 2012, of the ninth member of her family since 1998. Eloísa Barrios has previously submitted petitions to the Inter-American Commission (IACHR) and Court of Human Rights (IACtHR), on 16 March 2004 and 30 December 2005, requesting protection measures for the family as a result of persecution, allegedly by members of the Police of Aragua State.
On 14 November 2012, human rights defender Ms Martha Díaz received threats against her life in the latest of a series of recent death threats targeting members of the Asociación de madres unidas por un solo dolor - AFUSODO.
Since 14 October 2012, human rights defender Mr. Azimuddin Sarkar and his family have been targeted with threats and intimidation on several occasions, which has been exacerbated by unwillingness on the part of the police to investigate the matter.
