Iran: Update - Human rights defender Ms Shiva Nazarahari released on bailposted on: 2010/09/13

On 12 September 2010, human rights defender Ms Shiva Nazarahari was released from detention. It has been reported that she was required to provide bail of 500 Million Iranian Toman (approximately $500,000 USD). Shiva Nazarahari is a journalist and member of the Committee of Human Rights Reporters (CHRR). She had been imprisoned since her arrest on 20 December 2009.

Iran: Update – Human rights defender Mohammad Mostafaei arrives in Norway and his relatives are released on bailposted on: 2010/08/09

Front Line is pleased to report that on 7 August 2010, human rights defender Mr Mohammad Mostafaei arrived safely in Norway where he has claimed political asylum. Ms Fereshteh Halimi, Mohammad Mostafaei's wife, was also released on bail on the afternoon of 7 August.

Kuwait: Update - Human rights defender Mr Mohammed Al-Jassem released on bailposted on: 2010/06/29

Further to the Urgent Appeal issued on 8 June 2010, Front Line has received the following information concerning the trial of human rights defender Mr Mohammed Al-Jassem: On 28 June 2010, a Kuwaiti court ordered the release of human rights defender Mohammed Al-Jassem on bail of 2,000 Kuwaiti dinars (approximately €5,600) and postponed the trial until 20 September 2010. The session was attended by an observer for Front Line.

India / Manipur – UPDATE – Four jailed human rights defenders released on bail while four others remain in detention posted on: 2009/10/08

Human rights defenders Thiyam Dinesh, Liklabam Tompok, S Nando and Chungjel Koireng, civil society activists with All Manipur United Committee Organisation - AMUCO, have been released from detention on 29 September 2009 after being granted bail against a surety bond of 50,000 Indian Rupees (approx. €720) each. The activists had been arrested by police commandos on 14 September 2009 and were remanded in police custody for 15 days after appearing before the court on 15 September. The arrests took place in connection with ongoing civil protests against summary executions by the police in Manipur.
