Syria: Travel bans on human rights defenders Abdul-Raheem Gomaza, Rassem Sulaiman El-Atasi and Zuhair Shams-el-Den Al-Sageerposted on: 2009/05/18

Front Line is concerned following reports that travel bans have been imposed on human rights defenders, Mr Abdul-Raheem Gomaza, Mr Rassem Sulaiman El-Atasi and Mr Zuhair Shams-el-Den Al-Sageer. Abdul-Raheem Gomaza is the former secretary and current chief attorney of the National Organisation for Human Rights. He has published articles on capital punishment in Syria and in November 2007 he monitored a trial in Egypt on behalf of the Arab Commission for Human Rights. Rassem Sulaiman El-Atasi is the director of the Syrian section of the Arab Organisation for Human Rights and Zuhair Shams-el-Den Al-Sageer is a board member of the same organisation.

Egypt: Travel restrictions imposed against members of human rights organisation Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR)posted on: 2008/06/06

Front Line is deeply concerned following reports that the Egyptian Government has prevented the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) from taking part in a United Nations General Assembly high-level meeting on HIV/AIDS, due to take place on 10-11 June 2008. The EIPR was founded in 2002 to protect and promote human rights in Egypt.
