On 2 May 2011 human rights defenders Mr Manuel Peláez and Ms Rosario López were summoned to the police station of Limón, in the province of Morona Santiago, Ecuador. Manuel Peláez and Rosaria López are respectively director and member of the Associación Campesinos de Limón Indanza – ACLI (Peasants' Association of Limón Indanza), which is a member organisation of the Coordinadora Nacional por la Defensa de la Vida y la Soberanía - CNDVS (National Co-ordinating Committee for the Defence of Life and Sovereignty.

On 2 May 2011 Manuel Peláez and Rosario López received a summons to the police station in order to respond to allegations that they had been involved in the disappearance of a sign relating to a community meeting that took place on 25 April 2011 in San Miguel de Conchay. The sign in question had been put up by the Chino-Canadian mining corporation Corriente Resources, affiliated to Explorcobres-EXSA, that is stationed there. EXSA has reportedly set up an organisation called Nuevos Horizontes (New Horizons) which purports to make agreements on behalf of the whole community.

Mexico - Death threats against human rights defender Mr Adolfo Guzmán Ordazposted on: 2009/12/23

On 14 December 2009, human rights defender Mr Adolfo Guzmán Ordaz received a death threat at his home in Comitán de Comínguez, Chiapas. The threat came two days before he was due to testify at a hearing in order to identify a police officer who took part in a raid of his home. Adolfo Guzmán Ordaz is a member of the organisation “Connect, Communication and Training” (Enlace, Comunicación y Capacitación – Enlace CC). Enlace CC is a civil organisation with bases in Chiapas which works for sustainable development for indigenous people and rural workers in central and southern Mexico, incorporating human rights and gender equality as its guiding principles.
