Imprisoned human rights defender Vadim Kuramshin has been chosen as the 2013 winner of the Ludovic-Trarieux Prize for lawyers working in defence of human rights. The decision was made on 20 June 2013 by a jury of 29 European lawyers presided by lawyer Bertrand Favreau

A joint letter signed by seven human rights organisations, including Front Line Defenders, has been sent to the President of Kazakhstan urging him to reconsider the transfer of human rights defender Vadim Kuramshin to prison colony EC 164/4 due to increasing fears for his safety.

On 4 March 2013, imprisoned human rights defender Mr Vadim Kuramshin was transferred from a temporary detention facility in the town of Taraz to prison colony EC 164/4 near the village of Gorny, Zhaman sopka, in North Kazakhstan.
