DRC - UPDATE - Sentencing of human rights defender, Mr Golden Misabiko

On 21 September 2009, the Court of Lubumbashi sentenced human rights defender, Mr Golden Misabiko to one year imprisonment, of which eight months have been suspended. He had been accused of publishing false information and undermining the security of the state but was finally charged with 'publishing false information with intent to harm.' Lawyers for Mr. Misabiko have decided to appeal this decision. Read More

Iran: Cruel and unjust sentencing of woman human rights defender Delaram Ali

Front Line is deeply concerned that the Court of Appeals has reportedly sentenced woman human rights defender, Delaram Ali (20 years old) to thirty months in prison and ten lashes. Delaram Ali was convicted after an unfair trial as a result of her peaceful activities in defence of human rights. The prison sentence handed down by the Appeal Court is grossly disproportionate and the sentence of ten lashes constitutes cruel and inhuman punishment. Front Line urges the Iranian authorities to show clemency in the case of this young woman. Read More
