Israel: UPDATE - Human rights defender Mr Ezra Nawi faces sentencing on 21 September 2009posted on: 2009/08/24

At the sentencing hearing on 16 August 2009 Emily Schaeffer testified on behalf of ‘Jewish Voice for Peace’. She explained that over 20,000 people from around the world knew Ezra, supported him, and demanded that he not be jailed for his courageous nonviolent defense of Palestinian Bedouins in the South Hebron region which has been under constant attack by settlers, the Israeli army and police. The judge will pass sentence on 21 September 2009.

Front Line is concerned following reports that a travel ban has been imposed on Mr Shawan Jabarin, General Director of Al Haq, an independent Palestinian non-governmental organisation based in Ramallah, West Bank. Al Haq was established in 1979, has special consultative status with the United Nations, and works to protect and promote human rights and the rule of law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).

Ramallah: Raji Sourani Meets H.E. Benita Ferrero-Waldner the European Commissioner for External Relationsposted on: 2007/10/31

PCHR (Palestinian Centre for Human Rights) Director, Raji Sourani, met the European Commissioner for External Relations, H.E. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and the European Envoy for the Peace Process in the Middle East, Mr. Mark Otteh. The meetings took place in Ramallah on Tuesday, 30 October 2007. This first meeting with Ferrero-Waldner focused on the deteriorating humanitarian situation of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip in light of the closure of the territory by Israel. Sourani highlighted the impact of the closure on basic sectors such as health, education, economy, and travel.
