On 30 July 2012, human rights defender Mr Maurice Mjomba was found dead in his home in Dar es Salaam in suspicious circumstances.

On 10 February 2012, at approximately 6 pm, 16 human rights defenders were released from Oyster Bay Police Station in Dar es Salaam charged with unlawful assembly.

Tanzania: Update – Charges dropped against human rights defender Masesa Bandomaposted on: 2011/10/10

On 7 October 2011 the fabricated charges of insulting a police officer and disorderly behaviour against Mr Masesa Bandoma were dropped following the failure of the police to attend the court on each of the three occasions on which the hearing was scheduled to take place. The case was dismissed in accordance with section 4.1 of the Primary Courts Criminal Procedure Code (PCCPC).

Human rights defender Mr Masesa Bandoma is facing fabricated charges of insulting a police officer and disorderly behaviour, and will appear in court on 3 October 2011. Now on bail, he was arbitrarily detained and ill-treated while in police custody at the Mwanza police station from 20 to 22 September.
