Bertha Oliva - Honduras

On the night of 3 July 2008, unknown individuals entered the offices of COFADEH (the Committee for Families of the Disappeared and Detainees) and vandalised the office, taking laptop computers and documents relating to current human rights cases.

Further Information

A second break in took place on the night of the 5 August 2008. In both cases the police arrived hours later and tried to infer it was an inside job. Two colleagues have since been followed by police.

On the night of 6 July 2008, a green Toyota pick-up followed the vehicle in which Bertha Oliva and her grand daughter were travelling home. The people following them pulled back upon seeing the security guard of their housing development. The vehicle briefly stopped half a block away to ensure that Bertha Oliva had seen them.

Front Line believes that the break-ins at the offices of COFADEH and the surveillance of Bertha Oliva and her colleagues are intended to intimidate the members of COFADEH and restrict their work.
