The Dublin Platform
Every two years Front Line hosts "The Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders." This gathering provides a unique opportunity for at-risk defenders from throughout the world to come together to exchange experiences, discuss relevant issues and engage with decision makers from governmental and intergovernmental bodies. Each of the first three Dublin Platforms in 2002, 2003 and 2005 brought together more than 100 human rights defenders from over 70 countries.
As part of each Dublin Platform, Front Line works with participants to coordinate panel discussions, defender testimonies, presentations and working groups to address the most pressing issues of security and protection which impact the daily lives of human rights defenders.
4th Dublin Platform
The fourth Front Line Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders took place in Dublin Castle, Dublin, Ireland on November 22-24, 2007.
The aims of the 4th Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders are to: i) Analyse and expose the reality of the repression of human rights defenders and promote their work internationally. ii) Prioritise the sharing of experience so that human rights defenders can learn from each other and discuss what strategic lessons can be drawn for the prevention and minimisation of risk. iii) Provide an opportunity for participants to relate experiences and make practical recommendations in specific areas and influence thinking at the international level.
The fourth Dublin Platform was opened by Mr.Denis O'Brien, Chairman, Front Line. Speakers included Ms.Mary Lawlor, Director Front Line and Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Dermot Ahern TD.
