Rashid Kang, Human Rights Defender Project Coordinator, Forum Asia

In this paper presented to the 2003 Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders, Rashid Kang of the Human Rights Defenders Project of Forum Asia, Bangkok, sets out the challenges for local ngo's and governments who may seek to suppport them. She outlines how an ngo which receives the financial support of another government may in turn by viilfied by nationalist propaganda and may find itself isolated within its own community because of the lack of organic ngo development. In this paper she sets out the challenges for all parties.
