DRC - UPDATE - Robert Ilunga Numbi released on bail
Mr Robert Ilunga Numbi, president of Les Amis de Nelson Mandela (ANMDH), has been released on bail today 1 October 2009 from the Malaka central prison, after a month in detention. Robert Ilunga was arrested on 31 August 2009 by agents of the national intelligence agency (ANR) in Kinshasa and held incommunicado for nine days.
He was arrested following a press conference organised by ANMDH in Kinshasa on 24 August 2009 to denounce the mistreatment suffered by staff of the Societe Generale Industrielle (SGI), based in Kasangulu in the province of Bas Congo. He was transferred into custody in the office of the public prosecutor on 8 September and charged with dissemination of false information.
