Israel: UPDATE - Human rights defender Mr Ezra Nawi faces sentencing on 21 September 2009

At the sentencing hearing on 16 August 2009 Emily Schaeffer testified on behalf of ‘Jewish Voice for Peace’. She explained that over 20,000 people from around the world knew Ezra, supported him, and demanded that he not be jailed for his courageous nonviolent defense of Palestinian Bedouins in the South Hebron region which has been under constant attack by settlers, the Israeli army and police. The judge will pass sentence on 21 September 2009.

On 19 March and 1st of July 2009, Ezra Nawi was brought to court for allegedly assaulting a border police officer. For more information see Original Front Line Appeal on this case
