Turkey: UPDATE - Human rights defender Ms Filiz Kalayci held in maximum security prison

Ms Filiz Kalayci was immediately transferred to the F-type (maximum security) Sincan's Women's Prison in Ankara on being re-arrested on 27 May. Filiz's lawyers appealed the decision of arrest to the Istanbul Heavy Penal Court but it is not yet known when the court will make a decision regarding this appeal.
Further Information
A trial date has not been determined yet either, but if Filiz is found guilty of aiding an illegal organisation, she could face a prison sentence of 6 years.
It is of interest that while 3 other lawyers face the same charges, only Filiz Kalayci has been re-arrested and detained.
Furthermore, while she was being interrogated by officials, she was asked why her Human Rights Association (IHD) organises activities and issues press releases regarding prison conditions and human rights violations in prisons, confirming the concern that she is being targeted as a result of her legitimate work in defence of human rights.
